NSW police charge teen with firearm and property offences at Gunnedah

A teen has been charged following an investigation into firearm and property-related offences in the state’s north east.

Operation Western Mongoose was established in April 2022 to investigate property offences, break and enters, and vehicle thefts throughout the Oxley Police District.

Following inquiries, about 12.25pm yesterday (Wednesday 1 June 2022), officers arrested a 16-year-old boy at Gunnedah Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property, two counts of possess unregistered firearm in public place, two counts of enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, break and enter house steal value, possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm and use unauthorised firearm.

The boy was given conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Wednesday 8 June 2022.

Investigations will continue under Operation Western Mongoose.

Operation Western Mongoose consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team, Detectives, Crime Prevention Unit within Oxley Police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command and Dog Unit.
