NSW police charge teens over break-ins, pursuits at Tamworth

Four teens will face court today charged after multiple break-ins and pursuit’s in the state’s north-east.

About 4.15am yesterday (Sunday 10 April 2022), officers from Moree attempted to stop a black Jeep Grand Cherokee in Chester Street, Moree.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

It is believed the car was stolen earlier that morning from a home in Tamworth.

Just after 12.00am today (Monday 11 April 2022), it is alleged two homes were broken into on Ibis Street, Calala, where a white Nissan Utility and a Volkswagen Golf were stolen.

A short time later, officers sighted the utility abandoned on William Street, Tamworth, where several occupants were seen to enter the Golf, and drive from the location.

A pursuit was initiated, and was terminated a short time later due safety concerns.

Following inquiries, about 1.30am today, officers attached to Oxley Police District attended a home on Leslie Street, Tamworth, arresting four teens hiding inside.

They were all taken to Tamworth Police Station.

A 13-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and breach of bail.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, break and enter house steal value, receive property theft serious indictable offence, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, dispose motor vehicle part-theft serious indictable offence and breach of bail.

A 15-year-old year boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and served with two warrants in relation to property and firearm offences.

The 17-year-old teen was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and breach of bail.

All four teens were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Monday 11 April 2022).
