A man and teenage boy have been charged with multiple traffic offences following an investigation into trail-bike riding in the state’s north west.
Between Sunday (11 October 2020) and yesterday (Thursday 15 October 2020), officers attached to Central North Police District will allege a man and a teenager were seen riding trail bikes erratically within the Bourke township on numerous occasions. The riders and pillon passengers were frequently seen without helmets.
Following inquiries, police arrested an 18-year-old man on Oxley Street at Bourke at about 12.05pm yesterday (Thursday 15 October 2020), and seized his trail bike.
He was taken to Bourke Police Station and charged with 12 offences:
- Use unregistered motor vehicle (three counts)
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road (three counts)
- Rider without helmet ride with one passenger without helmet (two counts)
- Use uninsured motor vehicle (three counts)
- Motorbike rider not wear helmet
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Bourke Local Court on Thursday 5 November 2020.
Following further inquiries, about 8.35pm the same day, police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Adelaide Street, Bourke.
He was also taken to Bourke Police Station and charged with eight offences
- Use unregistered motor vehicle (two counts)
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road (two counts)
- Rider without helmet ride with one passenger without helmet (two counts), and
- Use uninsured motor vehicle (two counts).
The boy was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday 29 October 2020.
