NSW police charge two after man stabbed at Wynyard

Two men will face court after a man was allegedly stabbed during an altercation in Sydney’s CBD.

About 6.00pm last night (Thursday 5 November 2020), emergency services were called a licensed venue on York Street at Wynyard, following reports a man had been assaulted.

Police have been told a group of five men became involved in a heated argument with staff at the venue. An altercation followed, which a man is alleged to have produced a knife and stabbed a 34-year-old employee of the premises. The five men then ran off.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with stab wounds to his back and side. His condition is reported to be serious but stable.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene and commenced an investigation. A short time later, three men were arrested by police nearby.

The three men were taken to Surry Hills Police Station. A 31-year-old man from Carlton was charged with assault and affray. He was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court later today (Friday 6 November 2020).

A 29-year-old man from Narwee was charged with affray. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 26 November 2020.

A third man, a 34-year-old man from Ridgewood in Western Australia, was issued a Criminal Infringement Notice for offensive language.

Inquiries are continuing in relation to the other two men allegedly involved.
