NSW police charge two men after search warrant: Strike Force Axon at Port Kembla

Two men have been charged following a search warrant in the state’s Illawarra region today.

Strike Force Axon was established in December 2020 by Wollongong and Lake Illawarra Police Districts, to investigate the alleged supply of prohibited drugs in the Illawarra.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to South East Region Enforcement Squad (RES), served a Firearms Prohibition Order and Weapons Prohibitions Order at a home on Allen Street, Port Kembla, just before 8am (Tuesday 22 March 2022).

Officers conducted a subsequent search of the home and a vehicle.

Two men aged 65 and 43 were arrested at the property and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The older man was charged with possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal – serious indictable offence.

The younger man was charged with take part supply prohibited drug, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Both men were refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 22 March 2022).

Investigations under Strike Force Axon continue.
