NSW police charge two over burnouts and speeding at Wagga Wagga

Police have charged two men with traffic offences, after allegedly speeding in the state’s Riverina last week.

Yesterday (Sunday 5 December 2021), officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol’s Puma South West Regional received information relating to photographs and videos of people allegedly speeding and conducting burnouts in Wagga Wagga were uploaded to social media.

The videos allegedly depict the men – aged 18 and 20 – travelling in separate vehicles at speeds of up to 170km/h in a 100km/h signposted area.

It will be alleged the men were filming as they overtook each other travelling at high speeds, with the younger man allegedly filmed conducting burnouts along Butterbush Road, Gregadoo, about 20km south of Wagga Wagga on Thursday 2 December 2021.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Osborne Avenue, Kooringal, that afternoon and spoke with an 18-year-old man.

Soon after, police then attended a home on Edward Street, Wagga Wagga and spoke with a 20-year-old man.

The younger man from Kooringal was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive at speed dangerous, and aggravated burnout. His licence was suspended, and the plates of his vehicle were seized.

The older man was issued a Court Attendance Notice for two counts of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous. His licence was also suspended.

Both men will appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 12 January 2022.
