NSW police charge two women after three police officers assaulted

Two women will appear in court today charged after three police officers were allegedly assaulted in the state’s Murray River region overnight.

About 1.30am (Thursday 31 March 2022), officers from Murray River Police District attended a home on Chenery Street, Glenroy for an unrelated matter, when they were approached by a woman. Checks revealed the 44-year-old was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

As police attempted to arrest her, it will be alleged she kneed a male constable in the groin, before biting a female constable on the arm.

A 22-year-old woman then intervened, and allegedly kicked the female officer in the forehead.

Additional police were called to the location, and as they were placing the younger woman in the caged truck, she allegedly kicked a male senior constable in the nose.

Both women were arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.

The older woman was charged with:

  • Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic)
  • Assault law officer (not police officer)
  • Resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty

The younger woman was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and three counts of assault officer in execution of duty.

Both women were refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Thursday 31 March 2022).

The three officers were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but did not require medical treatment.
