NSW police launch investigation into suspicious building fire at Lake Illawarra

An investigation is underway after fire destroyed a building in the state’s Illawarra yesterday.

About 9.15pm (Tuesday 8 February 2022), emergency services were called to the corner of Farmborough Road and Princes Highway, Unanderra, following reports a building was on fire.

Upon arrival, the second storey was well alight. Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze just before 11pm, with the building sustaining extensive damage.

The premises was vacant; no one was inside at the time and no injuries have been reported.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, investigators are treating it as suspicious.
