NSW police lay charges after graffiti causes more than $11,000 worth of damage to Sydney trains

A man will appear before court today charged over allegedly vandalising and causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to trains across Sydney.

In December 2019, officers from the Police Transport Command commenced an investigation into malicious damage and vandalism at several train stations across Sydney’s west, including Homebush, Blacktown, Emu Plains, and Riverstone, as well as trains at Redfern and Martin Place railway stations.

Police will allege in court that the graffiti caused more than $11,000 worth of damage to trains at these locations.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 23-year-old man at a home in St Clair about 7am today (Wednesday 6 May 2020).

A short time later, officers executed a search warrant at the property, where they located several items, including aerosol spray paint cans, cannabis, drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, SD cards and cameras.

These items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Penrith Police Station, where he was charged with 23 offences, including:

  • 11 counts of malicious damage,
  • 11 counts of entering running lines, and
  • breach of bail.

The St Clair man was refused bail to face Penrith Local Court today.

Investigations are continuing.
