NSW police lay charges over robbery at Central Railway Station

A man will appear in court next month over an attempted robbery and assault at Central Railway Station.

About 12.30am (Sunday 23 June 2019), a 23-year-old woman was walking along the ticket barriers of the Devonshire Street entrance, when she was approached by an unknown man.

The man allegedly punched the woman to the left side of her face causing her to fall to the ground.

The man then attempted to steal her phone and wallet.

A station employee came to her aid, when he was also assaulted by the man, who punched the 51-year-old in the head causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness for a few seconds.

The offender then fled the scene.

The man and woman were both treated at St Vincent’s Hospital for injuries. They have since been released.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 21-year-old man at Bland Street, Ashfield, about 5.15am today (Thursday 12 September 2019).

He was taken to Burwood Police Station where he charged with aggravated assault with intent to rob, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

The Rhodes man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 12 September 2019), where he remains in custody to reappear at the same court on Thursday 7 November 2019.
