The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the sustained level of infrastructure investment in the 2022-23 NSW Budget, which provides funding for a range of transport, cultural, health and infrastructure upgrades across Parramatta.
Property Council’s Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said the budget confirmed Parramatta as a focal point for state investment.
“The Government has honoured its commitment to press on with Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail, which is a very big call in a city with so many infrastructure megaprojects underway at the same time,” Mr Grove said.
“We also welcome two new projects – the redevelopment of Parramatta Police Station and initial funding for the delivery of a modern integrated mental health complex within the Westmead Hospital campus.
“Additionally, the budget announces the first two Parramatta projects to be funded from the WestInvest asset recycling program with upgrades flagged for Parramatta East Public School and Telopea Public School.
“These communities are experiencing significant population growth and it is pleasing to see the NSW Government catering to the extra demand placed on these schools.”
Mr Grove said Parramatta’s most transformative projects were also forging ahead with funding continuing toward the construction of Stage 1 of Parramatta Light Rail, the new Sydney Metro West line into the city, Powerhouse Parramatta and the Westmead Hospital Redevelopment.
“Our next big-ticket item for the Parramatta CBD needs to be an upgrade to the justice precinct,” he said.
“To meet the needs of our growing population and expanding commercial office market, we need additional courtroom space to reflect the needs of our region.
“This city has the potential to be the home of a permanent Supreme Court presence, but we need the physical space within an already busy precinct to make this happen.”
