NT Covid update 22 January

There were 314 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Northern Territory in the 24 hours to 8pm on 21 January 2022. Of these, 219 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.

This takes the number of active cases in the NT to 4048.

New cases recorded include:

· 10 cases in Galiwinku

· 5 cases in Umbakumba

· 2 cases in Angurugu

· 2 cases in Yirrkala

· 5 cases in Gunyangara

· 1 case in Wurrumiyanga

· 1 case at the Darwin Correctional Centre

· 9 cases at Batten Road Short Stay Accommodation in Darwin

· 1 case at the Salvation Army Red Shield Hostel in Darwin

· 5 cases in Mataranka

· 1 case in Millingimbi

· 22 cases in Utopia

· 8 cases in Amoonguna

· 1 case at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre

· 1 case in Yuelamu

· 1 case in Ntaria

· 3 cases in Harts Range

· 1 case in Docker River

· 1 case in Mt. Liebig

· 1 case in Ti Tree

· 1 case at the Hetti Perkins Home for the Aged in Alice Springs

There are currently 63 patients in hospital, with six patients requiring oxygen. There is one patient in ICU.

1,481 COVID-19 PCR tests were processed across the NT yesterday.

New lockdowns announced in Gunyangara, Wurrimiyanga and Utopia; Galiwin’ku lockdown extended

Lockdown in Gunyangara (Ski Beach)

Effective 2pm today, Gunyangara will enter a 7 day lockdown until 2pm on Saturday 29 January.

Lockdown in Wurrumiyanga

Effective 2pm today, Wurrumiyanga will enter a 7 day lockdown until 2pm on Saturday 29 January.

Lockdown in Utopia

Effective 2pm today, Utopia and surrounding homelands will enter a 7 day lockdown until 2pm on Saturday 29 January.

Galiwin’ku lockdown extended for 7 days

The lockdown in Wessel Islands Archipelago, encompassing Elcho Island including Galiwin’ku and Wessel Island including Martjanba will be extended for 7 days until 2pm on Monday 31 January.

Lockdown requirements

During a lockdown, residents must stay at home and are only permitted to leave for the following four reasons:

Medical treatment, including COVID testing and vaccinationFor essential goods and services, like groceries, medications or power tokens. Only one household member should visit the store, once per dayFor one hour of outdoor exercise a day within 5 km from your home with one other person or people from your houseTo provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves, or in the case of an emergency.

Essential workers who are fully vaccinated can continue to go to work.

Lockout in Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Yuelamu and Amoonguna extended for 7 days

The lockout in Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Yuelamu, and Amoonguna will be extended for 7 days until 2pm on Sunday 30 January to help control the spread of COVID-19.

In a lockout, those people who are fully vaccinated are able to live normally and access all services with proof of their vaccination status.

Those who are unvaccinated, including people who have received only their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, must stay at home for the lockout period and are only permitted to leave for the following reasons:

1. Medical treatment, including COVID testing or vaccination

2. For essential goods and services, like groceries, power tokens and medications

3. For one day of outdoor exercise per day within 5km of your home with one other person or people from your house

4. To provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves, and in case of an emergency.

Public health measures

A Territory-wide indoor mask mandate remains in place.

COVID-19 testing

Everyone should get tested for COVID-19 if showing symptoms. A number of NT Rapid Antigen Testing and Distribution Points here have been established. Individuals can collect RATs for free from NT distribution centres located in Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
