NT Covid update 26 August

The Northern Territory is today reporting the deaths of six people from COVID-19. This includes three deaths from COVID-19 from this month and three historical deaths.

· A woman in her 60s from Greater Darwin had underlying health conditions and passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital

· A man in his 70s from Greater Darwin had underlying health conditions and passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital

· A woman in her 80s from Greater Darwin had underlying health conditions and passed away at home.

The three historical deaths were identified by NT Health’s COVID-19 Surveillance Unit as part of a routine mortality audit. Today the COVID-19 Mortality Review Panel confirmed they meet the national guidelines for recording as COVID-19 deaths. These include:

· A woman in her 60s from Greater Darwin had underlying health conditions and passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital in February 2022

· A woman in her 70s from Alice Springs had underlying health conditions and passed away at Alice Springs Hospital in March 2022

· A woman in her 70s from Greater Darwin had underlying health conditions and passed away at home in March 2022.

The total number of COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic is 68.

There were 114 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the 24 hours to 4pm on 25 August 2022.

There are currently 19 patients in hospital. There are five patients requiring oxygen and no patients are in ICU.

The number of active cases in the NT is 759.
