Ocean art competition winners announced

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

On World Ocean Day on 8 June, we invited Australians to enter our art competition to show us what they love about our ocean.

We received more than 60 entries across 3 age categories:

  • 3 to 10 years old
  • 11 to 17 years old
  • 18 years old and above.

Entrants used a variety of media and styles, from drawings, photographs and paintings, to collages, screenprints and sculptures.

The creativity and passion on display made judging the entries a difficult task for the panel!

The winners for each category are:

“The ocean is the giver of life. In my First Nations language, ocean means ‘Wardan’, my traditional clan’s name is Wadandi and translates to from the ocean, also, Wardan is my great great grandmother’s name, so I have a great love of the ocean by way of cultural and personal connections.”

These and other entries in the competition will feature in materials for our national Sustainable Ocean Plan. The plan will set a shared long-term vision for our ocean and identify the actions we need to take to sustainably grow our ocean economy and ensure a healthy ocean into the future.

Thank you to everyone who entered the competition. It is inspiring to see entrants’ creativity and their hopes for Australia’s future ocean.
