Off-duty security guard charged over serious assault in Sydney City

A man will face court today charged after allegedly seriously assaulting a man in Sydney’s CBD overnight.

Just after 6pm (Tuesday 3 November 2020), a 27-year-old man entered the loading dock area of a carpark on Bond Street, Sydney, and attempted to open the door of a parked vehicle.

A security guard, who had just completed his shift, confronted the man.

Following an argument, the security guard allegedly punched the man a number of times, knocking him unconscious, resulting in him falling and striking his head on the ground.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended, along with paramedics.

The injured man was treated taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he has since undergone emergency surgery and remains in a critical but stable condition.

The 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.

The Newtown man has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 4 November 2020).
