A man will appear in court today charged with multiple offences following a vehicle stop, where he allegedly assaulted a police officer, near Bathurst yesterday.
About 3.20pm (Saturday 20 June 2020), an officer attached to Chifley Highway Patrol stopped a Toyota Camry on White Rock Road, Kelso – just south of Bathurst – after it was detected travelling over 100km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The officer spoke to the driver – a 32-year-old man – before he was subjected to a roadside breath test that he allegedly refused.
The man attempted to drive away, before the officer removed the keys from the ignition and instructed the driver to exit the vehicle.
He exited the vehicle and allegedly punched the male senior constable in the face multiple times, before he headbutted the officer.
The officer deployed OC spray and the man was restrained and arrested.
He was taken to Bathurst Police Station, where a breath test returned a positive result. A subsequent breath analysis recorded a reading of 0.09.
The Bathurst man was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), class A motor vehicle exceed speed (greater than 30 km/h), drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, mid range PCA, and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
He was refused bail to appear in Dubbo Bail Court today (Sunday 21 June 2020).
The senior constable sustained soft tissue damage and attended Bathurst Hospital for assessment.
