Officer kicked in face in Hornsby

A man is in custody after a police officer was allegedly kicked in the face at Hornsby this morning.

Officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command became suspicious of the behaviour of a man and woman near the train station and stopped them in Hornsby Mall about 2.30am (Saturday 19 October 2019).

Police will allege when the man was advised he was going to be searched, a scuffle broke out during which the senior constable was kicked in the face.

The 34-year-old officer has been taken to Hornsby Hospital where he is being treated for a broken nose and facial lacerations.

A 19-year-old Asquith man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Hornsby Police Station; however, he has now been taken to Hornsby Hospital where he is being checked as a precaution.

Inquiries are continuing.
