OMCG bikie member charged over serious evade incident in Geelong CBD

Geelong police yesterday arrested and charged a man over a serious evade incident in Geelong CBD, which threatened the lives of multiple pedestrians.

Police allege the rider of a Harley Davidson motorcycle wearing a Bandidos vest failed to stop on Brougham Street when directed by police at about 8.30am on Friday 17 December.

The rider allegedly evaded police reaching speeds of more than 110kph in a 60kph zone, while ignoring red traffic light signals and narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal collision with several pedestrians in Brougham Street.

Geelong Highway Patrol officers with assistance from Geelong Crime Investigation Unit, Geelong Tasking and Crime Intervention Taskforce (TACIT) and Echo Taskforce, yesterday executed a search warrant at a Newcomb address where they arrested a 31-year-old man.

The man is a fully patched member of the Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

During a search of the property, police seized mobile phones and items of clothing.

Police executed a second search warrant at the Geelong Bandidos clubhouse in Breakwater where they seized a CCTV hard drive.

The man has been charged with numerous offences including dangerous driving when directed to stop by police; reckless conduct endangering persons; speed dangerous; and drive whilst suspended.

He has been remanded to face Geelong Magistrate’s Court on 24 December 2021.

Quotes attributable to Senior Sergeant Craig Stevens – Geelong Highway Patrol:

“This incident was an incredibly frightening experience for those innocent pedestrians who were going about their business on a Friday morning – and one that could have easily ended in tragedy.

“Police have absolutely zero tolerance for those who think they can disobey road rules and risk not just their own lives, but the lives of innocent bystanders.

“We want everyone to be with their families and friends at the Christmas table this year, and with the state’s road toll already higher than this time last year police are eagle-eyed on the roads.

“We will leave no stone unturned when it comes to hunting down dangerous drivers and holding them to account.”
