One Million Dollar Boost For Neale’s Fight Against MND

  • Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is once again backing Neale Daniher in his quest to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease, with a $1 million donation to fight Motor Neurone Disease.

Premier Daniel Andrews joined Neale for the start of Daniher’s Drive today – the annual fundraiser that builds awareness and encourages Victorians to dig deep to help our researchers cure MND.

The Labor Government’s $1 million donation builds on our long-standing support for Neale’s FightMND – taking the total contribution to the fight against MND to $5 million since 2015.

The funding will go towards improving the lives of people living with MND, and backing researchers to continue the work they are doing to discover treatment and a cure.

Beginning today, Daniher’s Drive will see teams travel throughout Victoria, all in the name of raising money and awareness. The 2019 Daniher’s Drive begins at Werribee Zoo and takes in the Surf Coast, Central Victoria and the Yarra Valley, before finishing on the Mornington Peninsula.

A Comedy Night and Fundraising Auction is planned for Wangaratta on Friday night, with opportunities for the public to bid for auction items online.

First held in 2015, Daniher’s Drive has raised more than $7 million to aide the fight against MND – and event organisers hope to take that tally to more than $10 million this year.

More than 2,000 people are currently diagnosed with MND across Australia, yet the terminal neurological disease currently has no known cure or treatment.

As noted by Premier Daniel Andrews

“Neale Daniher is a Victorian hero and I’m proud to be supporting him. The difference he has made to thousands of Australians with MND is almost incalculable, and all while facing this insidious disease.”

“As Neale often says, motor neurone disease is a beast, but thanks to his bravery and the generosity of so many Victorians, we will one day find a cure.”
