One new case recorded in NT 2 December

The Northern Territory has recorded one new case of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases from the NT outbreak to 60.

The new case is a male in his 40s from Lajamanu who is fully vaccinated. Urgent contract tracing is underway and he and any close contacts will be transferred to the Centre for National Resilience (CNR) today.

Lajamanu remains in a lockout.

There are currently 203 close contacts for cluster two. Of those, all have been contacted and are isolating, and 202 have returned a negative test.

More than 2,500 COVID-19 tests were processed across the NT yesterday.

Wastewater test results for the Bicentennial Road catchment site in Katherine remains positive. Wastewater testing for Binjari is now negative. There have been no other unexpected positive wastewater test results across the NT.

Binjari to enter lockdown

The Binjari community and surrounding homelands will transition from a hard lockdown to a lockdown from midday today.

This means that residents must stay at home for the lockdown period and people are only permitted to leave for the following five reasons:

  1. Medical treatment, including COVID testing or vaccination
  2. For essential goods and services, like groceries and medications. Only one household member should visit the store, once per day.
  3. For work that is considered essential.
  4. For one hour of outdoor exercise a day within 5 km from your home with one other person or people from your house.
  5. To provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves. In case of an emergency.

Masks must be worn if outside of the home. Territorians in the lockdown area should not travel.

Essential workers who are fully vaccinated or have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine can continue to go to work.

Katherine and Rockhole remain in lockout until midday on Tuesday 7 December.

Genomic sequencing has confirmed the international flight crew member in her 40s who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday 28 November has the Delta variant of COVID-19.

It is critical that anyone in the Territory, especially residents from Katherine, who have symptoms get tested for COVID-19 immediately to help prevent the spread of the virus.

  • Check in using The Territory Check In App every time, everywhere
  • If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly
  • Do not go to work if you feel sick
  • Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres where possible.
