Operation Hills, Sunshine Coast Hinterland 24 August

Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol police have wrapped up Operation Hills, a series of traffic enforcement patrols aimed at making local roads safer last weekend (August 20 to 21).

The two-day operation resulted in 38 people dealt with for 53 offences.

Police will allege four men on motorcycles were detected riding over 30km/h faster than the 80 km/h speed limit.

Two of the riders allegedly evaded police by driving away in a dangerous manner and were later located by police.

It will be alleged a 30-year-old Mapleton man was recorded travelling over 160km/h in an 80km/h zone, travelling to the incorrect side of the road and almost colliding with a police motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

The 30-year-old Mapleton man was issued with three infringements for exceed speed limit by more than 20km/h ($646.00 and four demerit points), exceed speed limit by more than 30km/h, and fail to attach number plate in a way that complies. He was also charged with one count each of dangerous operation with excessive speed and evade police. He is due to appear at Caloundra Magistrates Court September 20. His motorcycle has been impounded for 90 days.

A 49-year-old Beerwah man was issued infringements for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h ($1,078.00 and six demerit points) and charged with one count of contravene a direction. He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 12.

A 45-year-old Marcoola man was issued infringements for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h and driving a defective vehicle ($143.00 and one demerit point). He was also charged with one count of contravene a direction and is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 12.

A 32-year-old Kings Beach man was issued with infringements for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h, fail to stop for prescribed purpose ($862.00), fail to attach number plate in a way that complies ($460.00) and drive defective vehicle. He was also charged with one count each of dangerous operation with excessive speed and evade police. He is due to appear at Caloundra Magistrates Court September 20. His motorcycle has been impounded for 90 days.
