Fawkner Highway Patrol officers patrolling as part of Operation Regal nabbed a high range drink driver, following a collision in Essendon early Sunday morning.
Police responded to reports of a nose to tail collision between a sedan and a taxi at the intersection of Mount Alexander Road and Lincoln Road just after 12.30am.
The impact of the offending sedan pushed the taxi through a roundabout, then into a sign which caused a pole to fall onto and smash a glass tram stop.
Both drivers underwent mandatory alcohol and drug testing.
The 48-year-old Keilor Park man of the offending sedan tested positive to alcohol with an EBT reading of 0.280, over five times the legal alcohol limit, and was served an immediate loss of licence for 12 months.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam or CCTV, or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
Operation Regal is the King’s birthday long weekend state-wide road policing operation.
Operation Regal starts at 12:01am on Friday 6 June and ends at 11:59pm on Monday 8 June 2026.
