Optus expands network footprint in Townsville

Improving coverage with new sites in Vincent and Douglas

Optus has continued to improve mobile coverage across the city of Townsville after switching on two new sites in Vincent and Douglas.

The two towers form part of a $2.5 million investment by Optus in mobile coverage in the city over the last 12 months, enabling improved service for residents and visitors to make and receive calls, texts and access mobile data.

Optus Territory General manager for North Queensland Dave Morrissey said, Optus investment in Townsville has resulted in improved coverage and capacity for those in the city and real choice and competition for local businesses and residents who have a fantastic mobile services alternative.

The new tower in Douglas, at Townsville Hospital, brings much needed enhanced coverage to the hospital as well as along University Drive and Angus Smith Drive.

Those residing in Vincent can expect enhanced coverage as a result of the new tower located at Dalrymple Reserve. The tower will increase coverage capacity and play a key role in supporting services in the area and improving customer experience.

We are thrilled customers are seeing an improved network in Townsville with the addition of the two new towers in Vincent and Douglas.

Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson welcomed Optus investment in the city.

Its important that our growing population remains well-connected, so that locals and small business owners can get ahead and grow our economy, he said. Its a great show of confidence in our city.

Vincent and Douglas are two of hundreds of regional areas enjoying Optus 4G network which now covers 97.4 percent of the Australian population.
