Orange City Library reveals entries in Orange Waste 2 Art competition and exhibition

Orange Council

Months of work by creators across the city to turn waste materials into works of art will culminate in the Orange final of the Sims Metal Waste 2 Art Competition and Exhibition, which opens at Orange City Library on Monday 19 June.

Waste 2 Art is a community event that is open to all councils in the NetWaste region, which showcases creative works made from reused and recycled waste materials. This year’s theme is ‘Textiles and Fast Fashion’.

CREATIVITY: Orange City Library’s Waste 2 Art Coordinator Monica Engel arranges the display in the library.

Orange City Council’s Environmental Sustainability Community Committee Chair, Cr David Mallard says the competition has captured imaginations across the city, as aspiring and professional artists, school students and interested community groups take up the challenge to create new life for waste materials.

“Creators across Orange have used innovative ways to visually represent the reduction and reuse of waste in Orange. I encourage everyone to come along and see for themselves how people have taken rubbish and turned it into works of art,” Cr Mallard said.

The winners will be announced during the official opening at Orange City Library from 5pm on Friday 23 June.

Everyone is welcome to come along to congratulate the artists for their contributions and to relish the opportunity to dress for the occasion: handmade and repurposed is in vogue for the evening. Light refreshments will be served. Book your spot via Eventbrite.

The Orange round of the Sims Metal Waste 2 Art competition is sponsored by the Agrestic Grocer, Caboodle of Orange, Cured, ECCO, Hobbysew and Raw Canvas, REDS: Choose Colour, Rosnay Organic, See Saw Wines, Scoop Wholefoods and the Orange Community Renewable Energy Park.

The works will be displayed at the library until Friday 30 June. The winners will progress to the Regional Waste 2 Art competition and exhibition, which will be held at the Platform Art Hub in Blayney from 22 July to 19 August.
