Orange Regional Gallery celebrates community with two exhibitions

Orange Council

Orange Regional Gallery will celebrate the wealth of creative talent of all ages in the Central West at the opening of the HERE/NOW exhibition this Friday, 4 August.

HERE/NOW, the Gallery’s popular annual community exhibition will feature works by 165 of the region’s artists, from well-known local artists to emerging artists.

Deputy Mayor Gerald Power will officially open the exhibition at 6pm at Orange Regional Gallery, which features everything from drawings, paintings and photography to sculptures, ceramics and printmaking.

LOCAL TALENT: Works by 165 artists from across the Central West are on display in the exhibition.

“This is one of the most popular displays on the gallery’s annual exhibition calendar and attracts visitors from across the region every year,” Cr Power said.

“It provides an opportunity for local artists, many who have never exhibited before, to gain exposure and experience by having their works displayed alongside some of the region’s most well-known artistic talents. Hundreds of Central West artists have taken part in the show since it began in 2018.”

The Gallery will also celebrate I Am Me, a collaborative art-making project developed in partnership with Orange Regional Museum and the SPARKE network of local public primary schools. In its fourth year, the annual SPARKE program invites local primary school students to participate in the cultural life of their city though the creation of a large-scale art installation and associated learning programs.

The 2023 project, I Am Me, asked children to create a self-portrait that captured their special interests and abilities as well as their important friendships and family connections. I Am Me celebrates the exuberance and innate creativity of childhood and feature more than 1800 self-portraits.

SPARKE PROJECT: I Am Me, on display at the gallery, museum and library.

“Bring your friends and family along and see some of the Central West’s best art by people of all ages right here in Orange,” Cr Power said.
