Orange to host 2nd super netball clash in two years

Back by popular demand, the Giants Super Netball team will be back in Orange as part of their pre-season preparations.

For the second year in a row the Giants will travel to the Central West to showcase the game and build on the foundations formed last year.

Headlining the team’s three-day visit will be a free community clinic and two games against the Adelaide Thunderbirds. When the Giants last visited Orange in March 2021 the match was a sell-out. The Giants and Orange City Council have responded to the demand and put on two ticketed matches this time around.

The matches will be played at the Anzac Park indoor sports stadium in Orange on Friday 18 February and Saturday 19 February.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd welcomed the news that Orange would again host the Giants for a super netball weekend.

“It’s great news that Orange’s Anzac Park will again host a Giants game in the new year,” Cr Reg Kidd said. “Netball is a huge participation sport in Orange and to see two games open to the public this time around will be great for the sport locally.”

“Last time the tickets sold out online in a matter of minutes, so I’d encourage anyone who’s keen to attend to be ready when they go on sale on Wednesday this week. A couple of tickets will make a fantastic Christmas present.”

“Last time it was great to see how good a venue the Anzac Park indoor sports stadium is for an an event like this. The Council has talked about extending the stadium in future and adding a ‘show court’ with tiered seating. Games like this show the community what could happen in future.”

“Council will use the revenue from ticket sales with aim of being cost-neutral with the overall costs of staging the event.”

Giants Netball Executive General Manager, Tim Underwood, said the Giants were thrilled to have Orange once again on their pre-season calendar.

“We had such a great experience in Orange last year, the community were so welcoming and the energy was great, so we can’t wait to get back,” he said.

“Going out into the community, particularly those regions with a strong netball ethos, is a fundamental value of our club and vision, and something we hope to deliver on more in 2022 as life returns to normal.

“The partnership with the Orange City Council to date has been fantastic and equally beneficial to both parties.”

Tickets for the two pre-season matches will go on sale 12 noon on Wednesday 20 December.
