Organised Crime Squad detectives charge two men for alleged large scale drug supply – Strike Force Sapphire

Two men will face court today, charged following an Organised Crime Squad investigation into alleged large scale drug supply under Strike Force Sapphire.

Strike Force Sapphire was established by State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad to investigate the alleged supply of large commercial quantities of prohibited drugs across New South Wales.

Following extensive inquiries, about 1.15pm yesterday (Monday 3 July 2023), strike force detectives – with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit and Raptor Squad’s Traffic and Highway Patrol officers – arrested two men, aged 35 and 32, in Homebush.

At the scene, police seized approximately $295,000 in cash and 4kg of methylamphetamine with an estimated street value of $6 million.

During a search of the 32-year-old man’s car, investigators located a pair of knuckle dusters, capsicum spray and a knife. All items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.

About 6.20pm, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at an address on Avenue of Europe in Newington where they located and seized a mobile phone.

The men were taken to Auburn Police Station, where the older man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity and supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity.

The younger man was charged with supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity, custody of knife in public place and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

Both were refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Tuesday 4 July 2023).

Inquiries under Strike Force Sapphire continue.
