Two men have been charged after they allegedly stole a forklift and fled in two stolen vehicles in Laverton North overnight.
Police received a report that offenders were allegedly using an angle grinder to force open the gate to a business on Little Boundary Lane in Laverton North about 1.45am.
Officers found the business on a local city camera, where they saw a truck and a ute pulling away from the premises.
Police Air Wing spotted the two vehicles, a Fuso tow truck and a Mitsubishi Triton, travelling in convoy towards Derrimut.
Police will allege the duo had a quick stop at a fast-food restaurant on the Western Ring Road, before they attempted to leave however were stopped by police stop sticks near the exit of the freeway.
It’s alleged the driver of the truck then got into the utility, which continued along Western Highway and Fitzgerald Road.
Shortly afterwards, the utility pulled over on the side of Boundary Road in Truganina, where they were both swiftly arrested.
Police will further allege the Mitsubishi was stolen from a business in Truganina overnight and the truck was stolen from a business in Derrimut on 11 June.
A 42-year-old man and 49-year-old man have been charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicle (x2)
- Theft – forklift
- Handle stolen goods (x2)
- Going equipped to steal
- Commit indictable offences whilst on bail
The Werribee men will face Wyndham Magistrates’ Court today.
