Parcel pest arrested

A man has been arrested following a series of post office burglaries in Melbourne’s west over the last three months where almost $10,000 worth of parcels were stolen.

Detectives from Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit last Monday executed four warrants across the west, after two post offices in Werribee and Point Cook were allegedly broken into five times between September and October this year.

A 30-year-old man was arrested during a search of his Werribee property and subsequently charged with five counts of burglary and possessing a drug of dependence.

Police believe he allegedly sold the contents of the parcels overseas.

The Werribee man was remanded to appear before Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 7 December.

Police executed a further three warrants in Werribee and Hoppers Crossing as part of the investigation and arrested six people for unrelated matters.

Four of those arrested, aged between 28 and 55, were remanded for being wanted on warrants for various offences including burglary.

A fifth man was released pending summons for firearm and drug-related offending, while another man was cautioned for cannabis possession.

Anyone with information about criminal activity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
