Preparation is now underway for the $650,000 upgrade of Duke Of Cornwall Park.
The upgrade includes the installation of modern toilets and amenities and the renovation of the dilapidated tennis courts and fencing.
One court will be resurfaced and retained purely for tennis, while the other will be converted into a hybrid court suitable for both tennis and basketball. Both courts will feature a new Dreamcourt® hard-court sporting surface.
Council’s General Manager, Jay Nankivell, predicted the renovations would be welcomed by park users and the community.
“The Duke Of Cornwall Park has probably been an underutilised asset in the community, primarily due to the fact that the courts and toilets were just so old,” he said.
“This project will give the park a much-needed amenity upgrade for users and also provide a new flexible public recreation space for the many locals who enjoy tennis and basketball.”
Construction will begin this week and is expected to continue until mid-March. Users are advised that there will be restricted access to areas of the park that are undergoing renovation.
The Duke Of Cornwall project has been funded Broken Hill City Council and the NSW Government through the Regional Housing Fund.
