The City of Perth has listened to community feedback and will implement a flat $10 fee for all day parking in each of the 34 City owned car parks from Monday 6 April.
City of Perth Chair Commissioner Andrew Hammond said members of the community had been contacting the City of Perth advising that due to COVID-19 and reduced public transport options, they needed support.
“The City recognise there are less people in the city, however those who are coming in are largely doing so to work and provide much needed services in our city,” Mr Hammond said.
“We wanted to support these people who are helping our community at this difficult time.”
Mr Hammond said the City’s one hour free on-street parking announced last week had also been expanded.
He said on street parking would be free at all times, however timed parking restrictions still applied as per the signage. This means that parking in a one hour zone is limited to one hour, three hour zones to three hours etc to encourage turnover of users in areas where this will help businesses who are still open.
These measures will apply across the city boundary including the CBD, East Perth, West Perth, Crawley/Nedlands, Northbridge and Claisebrook.
Mr Hammond stressed however that Parking Information Officers would continue to issue fines for cars parked dangerously in areas such as clearways and on footpaths or in an ACROD bay without a valid permit. He said this was to ensure community safety.
These measures will continue until the City is satisfied that safe travel to work options have returned.
