Parking fines via mail

From today (18 October) Council will be issuing some parking fines via mail.

The change is a result of a significant upgrade of Council’s enforcement vehicle which will make it more efficient to identify drivers who park longer than allowed in the CBD.

The enforcement vehicle uses Licence Plate recognition to take photos of licence plates at the start and end of a parking period, then compares the images to identify vehicles that have not moved.

These images are then sent to Council’s parking office for final review. Any fines will then be sent by mail to the registered owner of the vehicle with instructions on how to pay.

Parking inspectors will continue to patrol the CBD on foot to identify offences such as failing to pay for parking and parking illegally in loading, taxi, bus and disability bays, and issue fines as normal by placing the infringement notice on the windscreen.
