Parking infringments review

The following comments can be attributed to Director Governance, Strategy and Performance Rebecca Leonard:

The City has completed a review of its appeal processes for parking infringements issued between 2009 and 2018. The process for deciding parking infringement appeals is unique to each council.

Consistent with the findings of the Ombudsman’s report, the City has taken the view that all appeal decisions must be made by the City, and not by an external service provider. This was reflected in our agreement with our infringements processing contractor since 2009.

Our review has identified that a limited number of infringement appeal decisions were not made by the City. The review found that the number of affected infringements is approximately 6,400, representing 11 per cent of the total number of appeals received during the relevant period. All other appeal decisions were made by the City’s Internal Ombudsman.

The Council has supported the City’s recommendation to refund the infringements related to the affected appeals. The City is finalising its arrangements to process refunds and will be starting the process in coming months.
