- Hino Australia will showcase its commitment to the firefighting and emergency services industry at the AFAC convention in Melbourne from 18–21 August, with an expanded stand featuring vehicles representing the past, present, and future of emergency response.
- The centrepiece of the display is a new 700 Series FS2632 6×4 Ultra Heavy Water Tanker, featuring a 9,000-litre aluminium water tank, an MK300 pump capable of 1,400 litres per minute, and a comprehensive SmartSafe safety package, built on a Euro 6-compliant chassis.
- A Hino 500 Series FE purpose-built mobile workshop, designed for the Country Fire Authority (CFA) by MFI Automotive Group, will also be on display, providing volunteer technicians with organised equipment storage, on-board power, and lifting and recovery capabilities.
- A restored 1986 Hino Type 2 pumper will be exhibited to celebrate over 40 years of Hino trucks serving frontline firefighting, having been returned to traditional CFA red after decades of service across Victoria and Queensland.
Hino Australia will display its commitment to the firefighting and emergency services industry with an expanded stand at the upcoming Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) convention in Melbourne from 18-21 August.
“Hino has been providing reliable transport solutions to the firefighting and emergency services for over 40 years, and this year’s AFAC stand provides a glimpse of the past, present and future within the emergency services,” said Daniel Petrovski, Manager – Product Strategy for Hino Australia.
The future
Headlining the stand will be a 700 Series FS2632 6×4 with an Ultra Heavy Water Tanker body designed and built by well-known body builders R.A. Bell & Co.
“It builds on the proven success of the outgoing 500 Series Wide Cab FM2632 6×4, and is the latest generation Hino chassis ideally suited to firefighting and emergency response applications with higher levels of performance, efficiency and safety,” said Mr Petrovski.
Featuring a 9,000 litre marine-grade aluminium water tank with advanced corrosion protection, the tanker is equipped with dual 65mm rear delivery outlets, dual 50mm and single 40mm deck outlets with a dedicated hydrant boost line, a TFT remote-controlled monitor mounted on the bull bar, and a burn-over crew protection system with an audible warning.
Water delivery is provided by an MK300 pump which is capable of flows up to 1,400 litres per minute, making it ideally suited to a variety of applications in the emergency services, local government and mining industries.
The Euro 6-compliant 700 Series FS2632 is powered by the proven Hino A09C six-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 320hp (235kW) and 1275Nm of torque delivered from 1,100 – 1,600rpm, and is mated to the six-speed Allison 3200 true automatic transmission.
The Hino 700 Series is the safest Hino truck in Australia, featuring the most comprehensive Hino SmartSafe safety package ever offered including Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Pedestrian Detection (PD), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Driver Monitor (DM) and Reverse Camera (RC).
The present
Also on the stand is a Hino 500 Series FE purpose-built mobile workshop which is designed and built by the highly-experienced MFI Automotive Group for Country Fire Authority (CFA).
“The 500 Series has been a perennial favourite within the firefighting industry for decades and this truck is no exception,” said Mr Petrovski.
“It provides CFA Tower Overseers with a practical, safe and highly capable mobile workshop for maintenance work throughout Victoria.”
Designed to equip volunteer technicians with organised equipment storage, on-board power, lifting and recovery capability, and safe access to tools and equipment in the field.
The lifting and access equipment includes a Maxilift ML150.3D E 24 V electro-hydraulic crane with manual stabiliser leg assembly plus a 6.4 m Branach Powermaster extension ladder.
Other modifications to the vehicle that assist CFA crew include an additional front recovery point and custom-built four-post bulbar.
The 500 Series has a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) of 14 tonne and is powered by turbocharged AO5C engine matched to an Allison 2500 six-speed transmission and is equipped with a Hendrickson airbag drive axle suspension.
The standard Hino SmartSafe safety package includes a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection (PD), Safety Eye (SE) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) plus Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Anti Lock Braking System (ABS)
Both the 500 and 700 Series vehicles offer customers a 5 Years Warranty and Roadside Assist, in addition to standard fitment of Hino-Connect telematics which provides with real-time performance data, tracking, remote diagnosis of vehicle operation and dedicated Hino-Connect support specialists.
The past
To celebrate the enduring legacy of Hino trucks in frontline firefighting for Country Fire Authority in Victoria, a recently restored 1986 Hino Type 2 pumper will also be on display.
After decades of service in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, it found a second life in industrial firefighting and emergency response training across Victoria and Queensland.
Formerly painted in the distinctive Weidelux DayGlo Orange, the pumper has been restored by Eastey Fire Trucks to the traditional Country Fire Association (CFA) red.
“This remarkable truck is a fantastic example of Hino’s renowned quality, durability and reliability – it is still transported around Victoria Fire Station precincts for training purposes, and continues to remain functional,” said Mr Petrovski.
“After four decades of service across frontline firefighting, industrial operations and training environments, it continues to demonstrate the dependable performance that Hino customers have come to expect from our trucks,” he concluded.
