PD Ben retires

Happy Retirement Police Dog Ben! PD Ben, at the ripe old age of seven will retire from SAPOL’s Dog Operations Unit (DOU) today.

PD Ben (and his glamour coat) has been working with Sergeant Rosenhahn at DOU since 2015 and has certainly made his presence felt. During his illustrious career Ben has was deployed a massive 1034 times. He has directly apprehended 182 offenders, recovered 103 items of property worth in excess of $26,000 and was responsible for clearing 454 police reports.

One of PD Ben’s most memorable arrests was being the only dog ever to avoid all the meat in the Adelaide Central Markets and catch a breaker behind the counter of a Butcher store.

Another of PD Ben’s contributions to the Dog Operations Unit was his role in the formulation of our relationships that that now form part of our Breeding and Development Strategy.

PD Ben will see out his retirement at his handler’s home and has already begun demonstrating his displeasure at being side-lined by aerating Sergeant Rosenhahn’s lawn, but time will heal all wounds, as well as lots of treats and tummy rubs from the Rosenhahn family.

The DOU and SAPOL would like to wish the big “knucklehead” all the best in his retirement and his presence will absolutely be missed… well, everything except the clumps of hair in the hydrobath drain.
