Perth company wins Defence contract

A Perth firm has become the third West Australian company to secure a contract through the Morrison Government’s flagship defence innovation program.

AVI Pty Ltd has been awarded a Defence Innovation Hub contract to develop a solution to combine data across multiple communications networks for the Army.

Our funding support is aimed at helping improve how our soldiers share information more effectively when deployed.

Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price said the $1.87 million contract highlighted the innovative nature of Australia’s manufacturing sector.

“AVI has a strong record of designing, developing and building specialised communications solutions for harsh, remote environments,” Minister Price said.

“This Australian technology has passed the test under the harsh conditions of the Australian outback and has potentially significant benefits for the situational awareness of our soldiers in the field.”

Federal Member for Tangney Ben Morton said it was an example of the opportunities available for WA businesses in Australia’s defence industry.

“It is great to see important innovations like this being developed by small business through the Defence Innovation Hub,” Mr Morton said.

“This funding is helping small businesses to improve Defence capability and grow jobs for local companies like AVI.

“The Morrison Government’s record investment in defence industry is also supporting Australian manufacturing, which is more innovative and capable than it has ever been.”

Industry and research organisations can submit innovation proposals through the Defence Innovation Portal at: www.innovationhub.defence.gov.au.
