Cricket Australia (CA) and the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) today announced Foodbank’s School Breakfast Program as the beneficiary of all money raised through its partnership with Telethon for the historic Domain Day-Night Perth Test next month.
The Foodbank WA School Breakfast Program supplies quality food products to registered schools free of charge to ensure all children have access to a nutritious breakfast before school.
Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manger – Fan Engagement, Anthony Everard said:
“Cricket Australia will partner with Telethon and Foodbank to help feed WA Kids in need. In the lead up and during the historic Domain day-night Test match in Perth every $1 raised will go towards providing two children with breakfast.
“Our elite players understand the importance of nutrition more than most, and we are incredibly proud to be doing our part to make sure every child starts their day with a nutritious breakfast.”
“It’s important our fans know that all money raised will go towards helping the WA children who need it the most.”
The Foodbank WA School Breakfast Program was initiated in 2001 in response to rising awareness that 50% of WA school children were, not having breakfast at all, did not eat enough for breakfast or consumed unhealthy foods for breakfast such as chocolate and energy drinks
Foodbank WA’s Nutrition and Food Security Manager, Roslyn Giglia said:
“Access to food, and in particular nutritious food, is something many people take for granted but the reality is that many students turn up at school with an empty stomach.
We want children to focus on being kids and learning while they are at school, and having breakfast allows them to do just this. With the additional funds raised between now and next month’s test, we will be able to reach an even greater number of children and provide them with a nutritious and healthy breakfast.”
CA’s three-year partnership with Telethon kicked off last month and more than $30,000 has already been raised through this partnership. Gold coin donations will also be collected at open training sessions and cricket fans will also have the chance to donate during the test match.
In the event of the Day-Night Test extending to Day Five, fans will be able to gain entry to the ground with a gold coin donation to Telethon.
