The International Congress of Neuromuscular Diseases is set to return to Perth in 2024 – the first time the event has been held here since 1971.
One of the leading global conferences of its kind, the event is expected to attract thousands of medical and research professionals to Perth to discuss the latest developments in the treatments for neuromuscular diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The McGowan Government, through Tourism WA, provides funding to Business Events Perth to attract conferences such as this to the State.
Western Australia is ideally positioned to host large business events and Perth, in particular, is the perfect place to host the 2024 congress with more than 40 established medical and life science organisations, including the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science.
Since 2012, close to 50 hotels have been built or renovated, adding more than 6,500 rooms to the greater Perth region, and the central business district is bustling with new restaurants, shopping and cultural spaces.
In 2019-20, Business Events Perth secured 124 conferences and 125 corporate meetings and incentive events for the year, injecting close to $141 million into WA’s economy.
As stated by Tourism Minister David Templeman:

“This international congress will be a great chance for attendees to discover the wonderful offerings of Perth.
“We’ll be encouraging them to stay longer and explore regional WA, showcasing our State as an incredible business events and holiday destination.”
