Imagine if every person in our shire made just one simple change to reduce plastic waste. Together, those small actions could make a big difference.
That’s what Plastic Free July is all about.
As a proud Plastic Free July Council Member, Dungog Shire Council is encouraging our community to join millions of people around the world in reducing single-use plastics and creating lasting habits that benefit our environment.
Originally launched in Perth, Plastic Free July has grown into a global movement involving people in more than 190 countries. In 2025 alone, an estimated 174 million people took part, helping to avoid around 290 million kilograms of plastic waste.
It shows that when communities work together, even the smallest changes can have a lasting impact.
Every small action counts
Reducing plastic doesn’t have to mean changing everything overnight.
Sometimes it’s as simple as:
- Bringing your reusable coffee cup
- Packing your lunch in reusable containers
- Choosing loose fruit and vegetables
- Remembering your reusable shopping bags
- Refilling your drink bottle instead of buying bottled water
These small everyday choices quickly become habits and help reduce waste, protect our waterways and create a cleaner, healthier Dungog Shire.
