The City of Playford’s Australia Day Awards acknowledge the valued work and commitment of community members who give their time generously to help others and make a significant contribution to the city.
The award winners were announced at the Australia Day celebrations at X Convenience Oval, Elizabeth, on Tuesday 26 January.
Raelene Wlochowicz is the founder of Playford’s Women’s Shed, which provides a safe environment for socially isolated and vulnerable women to meet, build new skills, increase their confidence and develop community connections.
After retiring from a 30 year career in Youth Justice Raelene has been the driving force behind the establishment of the Women’s Shed in Davoren Park, using donations, a $1,000 grant and the skills of a volunteer committee to rejuvenate an unused school building.
The Playford Women’s Shed is the first of its kind in South Australia and was opened in early 2020.
Courtney Hatchard is a committed coach and player of the Eastern Park Demons Netball Club, having played 22 junior seasons and six senior seasons with the club. A passionate netballer, she has also represented the Northern Metro Academy and Elizabeth Netball Association on three occasions.
In 2020 Courtney demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the health and wellbeing for the Demon’s players. Despite COVID-19 restrictions causing the netball season to be cancelled, Courtney coached three teams throughout winter 2020 ensuring the young players were able to continue to develop their netball skills and social interactions throughout the pandemic in a COVID safe environment. Courtney completed all necessary COVID-19 training requirements for the safety of her players and community.
Midway Road Community House provides a safe and welcoming atmosphere where community members of all ages and backgrounds can access a range of recreational, leisure, information, advocacy and support services.
Community members are always welcome to drop in for a chat and a cup of coffee or tea at the Midway Road Community House, or they can participate in ongoing programming or support monthly fundraising initiatives for the House.
Midway Road Community House facilitates community connections and supports people to develop and learn new skills.
The Elizabeth Rugby Union Football Club (ERUFC) prides itself on being an all-inclusive, family friendly club. There’s a place for every adult and child, no matter who they are or where they are from.
The ERUFC have rebuilt their junior sides over the last few years and are known for creating a warm and friendly environment that is welcoming to new and old families.
