Playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment reopen as restrictions begin to ease in Kingston
Playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment have reopened to the community this week, as the first step towards ‘COVID Normal’ under the Victorian Government’s Roadmap to Recovery.
City of Kingston CEO Julie Reid said Council was delighted families could once again enjoy the city’s playgrounds.
“Council has taken down posters and the cordoning tape which has prohibited community members from accessing playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment during Stage 4 restrictions,” said Ms Reid. “While everyone is now free to use the playgrounds and gym equipment, we ask the community to continue to practice social distancing and wear their masks at all times, and to wash their hands regularly.”
This is one of many baby steps towards normality that the community can look forward to Council announcing over the coming weeks. At this stage skate parks and public BBQ facilities remain closed.
As part of the staged reopening of services, Council will also be opening an Express Click and Collect service at Cheltenham, Parkdale and Chelsea Libraries from Monday 5 October. From Monday 12 October Express Click and Collect will commence at Clarinda Library as well.
“Residents will soon be able to access their local library collection by reserving items from these select branches via the online catalogue, the Kingston Libraries’ app or by calling 1300 135 668,” said Ms Reid.

Local library lovers can start putting items on hold for Express Click and Collect from Monday 28 September.
“While our digital library services have continued to operate during Stage 4 lockdowns, we know that many community members are missing their access to hard copies of books, music and movies – and will be making reservations as soon as possible,” said Ms Reid.
“Under the state’s existing restrictions, only residents within five kilometres of one of the branches offering Express Click and Collect will be able to access this service and return items in the afterhours chute which is open 24/7,” said Ms Reid.
Kingston Libraries has continued to operate their Home Library Service throughout Stage 4 and will continue to do so, delivering library materials directly to members of the community.
