More than 100 Over 50’s Festival events to be held across Yarra Ranges

Yarra Ranges Shire Council

The program for the Over 50’s Festival 2026 is now live, with more than 100 free and low-cost events on offer across the Yarra Ranges from 1-30 October.

Part of the Victoria-wide Seniors Festival, a Victorian Government initiative delivered each year in partnership with local councils, the Over 50’s Festival is a month-long celebration of connection, creativity, wellbeing, learning and community.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Richard Higgins, said the festival was a wonderful opportunity for local residents aged 50 and over to try something new, connect with others and celebrate the valuable contribution seniors make to the community.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such a vibrant and active community of residents who continue to give their time, skills and energy to making the Yarra Ranges such a great place to live,” Cr Higgins said.

“The Over 50’s Festival is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate those contributions, while also encouraging people to get out, try something different and connect with friends old and new.”

Cr Higgins also thanked the local community groups, businesses and volunteers who help bring the festival to life each year.

“A heartfelt thank you to the many local community groups, businesses and volunteers who make this festival possible,” he said.

“It’s wonderful to see events taking place right across the Yarra Ranges, from Monbulk to Lilydale, Yarra Glen to Healesville and everywhere in between.”

With more than 100 events to choose from, there is something for everyone, whether you’re looking to get active, get creative, learn something new or simply enjoy a good catch-up.

“There’s so much to choose from – you can get active with bowls, tennis or Taekwondo, get creative with jewellery making, writing groups or a paint and sip session, or simply enjoy a good old catch-up over a cup of tea and a scone,” Cr Higgins said.

“One special event is the Carers Concert we’re hosting at Mooroolbark Community Centre. 1 in 7 people in Yarra Ranges provide unpaid care for someone due to disability, chronic illness or ageing. This event celebrates the incredibly important work that carers do in our community. Come and enjoy live performances, connect with local support services, and share an afternoon of music, community and recognition. We’d love to see you there.”

To make it easier to find the right activity, the festival program is divided into five categories: Arts, Culture and Creativity; Body & Soul; Gather & Socialise; Outdoors & Nature and Learning & Technology.

The full program is now live on the Council website – click on ‘What’s on in Yarra Ranges’ on the homepage. Printed programs can also be found in Libraires and the Community Links across the Yarra Ranges.
