Police appeal for witnesses to Pakenham collision

Police investigators are appealing for witnesses after a two-car collision in Pakenham this morning.

Police spotted a black Holden Commodore sedan with cancelled registration allegedly travelling at high speed north on McGregor Road about 12.25am.

They attempted to intercept the Commodore before the vehicle sped away and police ceased to follow.

Shortly after, it is alleged the black Commodore entered the intersection of Princes Highway against a red traffic light and collided with a white Holden Commodore.

The driver of the offending black Commodore, a 19-year-old Sunshine man, was conveyed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is under police guard.

His passenger, a 16-year-old Pakenham boy was air-lifted to hospital with serious injuries and remains under police guard.

Both are expected to be interviewed for various traffic offences.

The three rear-seat passengers, two 17-year-old Pakenham girls and a 16-year-old Pakenham girl received minor injuries and were released pending further enquiries.

The driver and sole occupant of the white Commodore, a 71-year-old Pakenham woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

These arrests form part of Operation Arid, a four-day focus on keeping our community safe on the roads during the Labour Day long weekend.

The state-wide operation aims to reduce road trauma, including the number of lives lost and injuries on our roads.

During this time motorists can expect to be breath tested and drug tested, have their vehicles scanned and be checked for speeding.

The operation involves all available personnel including local road policing units, general duties, other operational policing units and centralised resources from Road Policing Command.

Operation Arid runs from 12.01am on Friday 6 March to 11.59pm on Monday 9 March 2020.
