Police arrest man after lengthy pursuit, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a lengthy police pursuit that went nearly three hours through Adelaide’s northern suburbs this afternoon.

Just after 2pm on Monday 30 September, police patrols attempted to stop a blue Subaru driven by a man known to police on Main North Road Elizabeth East, but the driver refused to stop and it was followed south on Main North Road.

At 2.30pm, the blue Subaru was followed to Golden Grove then north towards One Tree Hill.

By 3pm the Subaru had made its way back to south to the Salisbury area and the police helicopter PolAir) was now following the vehicle.

The Subaru continued through suburbs including Para Hills, Hope Valley, Paradise, Magill and Hackney.

At 4pm the car wanted vehicle had evaded patrols attempts of using road spikes and was travelling through North Adelaide on busy Melbourne Street then briefly into the city onto Grenfell Street, before heading back north then around the Adelaide parklands to Port Road then north on South Road.

The car has continued north through heavy traffic from Port Wakefield Road then Main North Road. At 4.35pm police patrols successfully used road spikes puncturing three tyres on Smith Road.

At 4.48pm the Subaru after travelling the wrong way on the southbound carriageway of Main North Road, when it collided with two cars driven by member’s of the public just near Fletcher Road.

Police then took the wanted driver into custody.

The 32-year-old man from no fixed place has been arrested and charged with breaching his parole, engaging in a police pursuit, driving in a speed and manner dangerous to the public, with the allegations of driving including, excessive speed, driving on the wrong side of roads and driving on reserves and parklands to evade police.

He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police enquiries are continuing to ascertain inf the Subaru was stolen. It has been seized for further examination.

A woman driving one of the vehicle that was involved in the crash at Elizabeth East was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

There was no damage to any police vehicles.
