Police arrest man after police vehicle crashes at Lockleys, South Australia

A man has been arrested after a police car was involved in a crash at Lockleys.

At 9.30pm on Friday 28 June, patrols stopped a Toyota sedan on Tapleys Hill Road a short distance north from the intersection of Sir Donald Bradman Drive for a routine traffic stop.

As police approached the car, the driver took off south along Tapleys Hill Road and through the intersection of Sir Donald Bradman Drive.

Police, with their emergency lights already activated, slowed to almost a complete stop at the intersection before continuing through on a red light.

Several cars had stopped to give way to the police vehicle however, a Mazda SUV travelling west along Sir Donald Bradman Drive entered the intersection and was struck on the rear driver’s side by the police Toyota 4WD.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a 45-year-old woman from West Beach, received a minor injury to her arm and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to be medically assessed.

Neither of the police officers were injured and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Just after 10pm, police attended the registered owner’s (Toyota sedan) address at Glenelg South and arrested the 36-year-old. He is expected to be charged with speed dangerous and drive in a manner dangerous.
