Police arrest pair after Monash Freeway collision in Wheelers Hill

A man and woman have been arrested after an allegedly stolen car was involved in a collision on the Monash Freeway in Wheelers Hill earlier this month.

It is alleged a stolen Holden ute was travelling at high speeds on the freeway in convoy with a dark-coloured Ford hatchback about 7am on 2 December.

The stolen ute collided with a Honda sedan, causing it to roll and flip on its roof.

Police allege the driver of the ute was picked up by the driver of the Ford before fleeing the scene.

The driver of the Honda, a 29-year-old Richmond man, was trapped for a short period of time before being freed by emergency services.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Monash Crime Investigation Unit attended a Cranbourne West address yesterday and arrested a 22-year-old man and 26-year-old woman.

The Cranbourne West woman was charged with obtain property by deception and was bailed to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 29 March 2021.

The man, also from Cranbourne West, was charged with five counts of theft of motor vehicle, five counts of obtain property by deception, two counts of drive while disqualified and commit an indictable offence while on bail.

He was remanded overnight to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court today.
