Police arrest three after collision in West Melbourne

Three people have been arrested by police after they ran a red light and collided with another car in West Melbourne this morning.

Police patrolling near the Queen Victoria Market noticed the Mazda 2 with two males and one female on board in William Street just before 3.30am.

Officers pulled up next to the car which was stopped at a red light, on Dudley street at the intersection of King Street, when both parties glanced across to one another.

The Mazda took off at a fast rate of speed when the light turned green, running a red light at the next intersection at Spencer Street, before it collided with a vehicle travelling north in Spencer Street.

The three people in the Mazda, a 36-year-old Maidstone man, 28-year-old St Albans man and a 25-year-old woman, were all arrested at the scene and have been taken to hospital under police guard.

The driver of the other car was not seriously injured but has been taken to hospital to be checked over.

Police have follow up enquiries to make in relation to whether the Mazda had been stolen.
