Police charge man after Cairnlea non-fatal shooting

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have this afternoon charged a man following a non-fatal shooting in Cairnlea earlier this month.

A warrant was executed at a Kealba property yesterday evening (Wednesday, 19 April), and a 43-year-old Kealba man was arrested this afternoon.

He was subsequently charged with intentionally cause serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, reckless conduct endangering life, aggravated burglary with firearm (shot fired), prohibited person possess firearm and other offences.

The man has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 21 April.

The charges follow an incident on Thursday, 6 April when emergency services were called to an address in Cairnlea following reports a man had received a gunshot wound to the lower body.

A 50-year-old Cairnlea man was conveyed to hospital to be treated for non-life- threatening injuries.

Two other people inside the house at the time, a 42-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, were not physically injured during the incident.

Police believe the parties involved were known to each other.
