Police charge man after carjacking and pursuit

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged carjacking and pursuit in Melbourne’s north this week.

Police will allege the man was involved in an aggravated carjacking on Henty Street Reservoir on Wednesday 21 April about 3.30pm.

The stolen vehicle, a white Kona, was then observed on Camp Road, Broadmeadows after midnight.

Police pursued the vehicle for a short time before the man drove through a red light on Shankland Boulevard colliding with a Holden sedan.

Both the victim of the aggravated carjacking and the driver of the Holden Sedan were physically uninjured during the incident.

A 31-year-old man from Bundoora was arrested at the scene.

He has since been charged with:

• Aggravated carjacking

• Theft of motor vehicle x 2

• Unlawful assault

• Dangerous driving while pursed by police

• Fail to stop on police direction

• Drive manner dangerous

• Unlicensed driving

• Obtain property by deception x 5

• Handle stolen goods x 3

• Burglary

• Theft from motor vehicle.

The man appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
