Police charge man after Carrum Downs Hit-Run

Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) detectives have charged a man following his alleged involvement in a fatal hit-run collision that occurred in Carrum Downs on Tuesday morning.

The 25-year-old Carrum Downs man has been charged with:

• Being an accessory to impede, apprehension or prosecution

• Drive while disqualified

• Reckless conduct endangering life

• Drive in a manner dangerous while being pursued by police

• Fail to stop when directed by police

He will be directly presented to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening.

A 30-year-old man of no fixed address remains in custody and will be held overnight.

He is expected to be interviewed by detectives tomorrow.

The arrests and charges come after a 44-year-old Bayswater man sustained fatal injuries when he was struck by a red Holden Commodore on Hall Road about 7.15am.

A 38-year-old Traralgon man was also struck by the Holden and taken to hospital with serious injuries and was released from hospital today.

A black Hyundai SUV that the occupants allegedly fled in was also located this afternoon.

Detectives from the MCIU would like to thank detectives from the Southern Metro Crime Team, Frankston Crime Investigation Unit and Fugitive Taskforce for their assistance in the investigation.
